#1 About Me Blog — Preliminary

Hi, this is my first ever blog. My name is Ailish Reynoso, I’m a sophomore in high school (10th grade). I like to make bouquets of flowers with silk ribbon; I’m also taking three Cambridge classes this year alongside 12th grade mathematics. Originally, I chose Media Studies because my friends were going to pick it, so I chose it too; however, this class seems very interesting and I look forward to spending my last two hours of every other school day this school year in this class. I never knew all the things media studies students get to do, I didn’t really feel like joining this class in the first place because last year in my freshman year I had a sophomore friend taking this class and she was always telling me how much work this class required. I don’t like doing a lot of work, so naturally, I was hesitant of this class; writing is easy for me though, and since these blogs aren’t supposed to be strict passages with a correct format of writing and citing 2-4 pieces of evidence per paragraph, I think the easiest part will be the blogs (if I keep up, of course).

There’s a lot of things this class offers, such as developing camera skills and learning how to identify and use angles and lighting to your advantage. I would like to learn how to use these skills because I would like to teach them to my parents and grandma; every time they take pictures of me or literally anyone, it’s like they’re trying to get the worst possible side, I can’t stand it. Specifically, I don’t know anything about angles and flattering light or any of that stuff, I just move the camera around to see which angle fits best with what. I’d like to learn these skills, because in my opinion, I would be posting so much more if I knew how to take good photos. As for the skills I want to develop? I’m not so sure; like I said earlier, currently I just want to learn to take good photos. I suppose I’ve never been really creative, of course I’ve had ideas from time to time. However, having mind-bending, brain-shattering ideas? Not so much.

I’m pretty excited about this class. I heard we had to make a two-minute opening and my eyes lit up. It’s like I’ve never had so many ideas rushing through my head at once, I almost picked up a pencil and wrote everything down. Of course, it’s much more fun with friends; they’re the ones I want to work with for this project, as I don’t really like talking to people I don’t know, unless I have to. I like sharing these ideas for what we should do with them, even if we might not even do any of those at all; it’s like planning a super fun hangout with your friends only for your parents to make up an excuse at the last minute as to why they won’t take you.

As a fifteen-year-old girl, I consume a lot of media, so much in fact I might as well eat it with a side of sweet and sour sauce. I mostly scroll on TikTok, and I’m 100% sure my time spent on it is bordering on unhealthy now. I’d say I’m an active media consumer, meaning yes, I’m sharing and liking and commenting on mostly all of the videos I watch. My brain works nonstop to eat and digest all the videos I watch, I still remember way back before 2020 when TikTok was considered the app for weirdos and it was flooded with cosplayers and the Gamers vs. Furries war. I’m aware of how the media can affect your behavior, I am not an exception. In my opinion, the freedom of being able to post your thoughts and beliefs online and being able to connect with people that have similar opinions and interests has allowed me and society to be more comfortable with voicing their opinions. For example, I love love love watching alternative people come across my For You page, and I like watching people debate online too. In my opinion, what I consume on social media has even allowed me to speak more freely with my family and friends.

Until next time, byee! 🤗
